Education and Training

University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign • Urbana, IL • April 2023 - Present

Postdoc • Analytical Chemistry & Neuroscience
Advisors: Jonathan V. Sweedler and Fan Lam
Research: Leading a team in the use of MALDI mass spectrometry imaging and single-cell mass spectrometry to study neurodegeneration in animal models of Alzheimer’s disease. Using LC-MS and MALDI to spatially map peptides with unique post-translational modifications (e.g., D-amino acid containing peptides). Research outcomes have included two publications, two more in-progress, and five presentations at national and international conferences.

University of Washington • Seattle, WA • September 2018 - March 2023

PhD • Analytical Chemistry • GPA: 3.8/4.0
Advisor: Robert E. Synovec
Dissertation research: Developed instrumentation, data analysis tools, and fundamental theory for comprehensive two- and three-dimensional gas chromatography with time-of-flight mass spectrometry (GC×GC-TOFMS and GC3-TOFMS, respectively). Wrote and optimized new software to perform non-targeted analysis with GC×GC-TOFMS. Research outcomes include 13 publications (9 as first-author), two contributions to book chapters, and numerous invited and contributed presentations at national and international conferences.

University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee • Milwaukee, WI • August 2014 – December 2017

BSc • Chemistry, with Honors • GPA: 3.8/4.0
Advisor: Joseph H. Aldstadt
Undergraduate research: Developed instrumentation and methods using liquid chromatography, spectroscopy (UV/Vis), and flow analysis hyphenated to benchtop NMR applied to characterize illicit drugs and small metabolites. Research outcomes included one first-author publication and two presentations at national conferences.
